Our Mission
Today's high school students need more than traditional science education. The future generation of scientists, engineers, innovators, pioneers, need to understand the complex relationships between science and society. Our mission is to create a platform that engages students in Science, Technology, and Society so that they can be better prepared in our technology-dependent world.
Our Story
Education in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) is crucial because it equips students with the tools to critically examine the role of science and technology in shaping the world around us. Understanding how innovations interact with social, ethical, and political systems allows young people to engage with pressing issues that have been intensified with the introduction of revolutionary technology like artificial intelligence. Yet, despite its extraordinary relevance to society today, the study of STS is largely confined to graduate-level programs in select universities, occasionally offered at the undergraduate level.
High school students, the population that will define the future of the world in coming decades, rarely have access to this perspective. In fact, there is no program beyond higher academia that educates students in STS. This gap means that students are being educated in science and technology purely as technical knowledge, without exploring its broader societal implications.
Compelled by this truth, we created Young Scientists, an initiative in Science, Technology, and Society with the goal to bring education in STS to high schoolers. Young Scientists is proudly the first program in the nation to do so.
As pioneers, we hope to not erase and redefine education, but to amend national curriculum by offering a platform where students can explore the implications of science and technology in the real world.
